Access to Google Play - Z710

Q: Our Z710 does not have access to google play, how do we correct this?

 

A: This is because of running an older version of Android (either 2.3 or an older version of Android 4.1.1). Note: You will lose any data on the unit so please backup anything you need to keep before following the below steps. Please go to our driver page http://us.getac.com/support/drivers.html (type in “Z710”) to download the Z710 files. Then follow the instructions to below:

  1. Have the source files ready. They are:
    a. xx-xx-Z710.zip (where xx-xx = month-date)
    b. xx-xx-PCBA.zip (where xx-xx = month-date)
    c. PHS8_Firmware_R03.001_A01.zip
  2. Decompress the source files and copy the results (files and zipped folders) to the root directory of a microSD card.
  3. Connect the AC adapter to Z710.
  4. Insert the microSD card and power on Z710. Wait for about 10 seconds; the recovery menu should appear.
    a. If it does not, shutdown the unit. Hit the power button, wait 1 second, then hold the volume up and power button for 5-8 seconds until the recovery menu appears.
  5. Use the volume up/down button to move the highlight and use the power button to select.
    a. Select 1) Factory Tools in the main menu.
    b. In the submenu, select 1-1) Apply all updates.
    c. Text appears line by line in the lower part of the screen to indicate the progress. When completed, the message “Package update success” appears and the highlight returns to the first option in the menu.
  6. Select 1-7) Wipe date/media, factory reset.
  7. Text appears line by line in the lower part of the screen to indicate the progress. When completed, the message “Copy data from/factory to/data...” appears and the highlight returns to the first option in the menu.
  8. Select 1-9) 3G firmware update.
  9. Text appears line by line in the lower part of the screen to indicate the progress. When completed, the message “Firmware download succeeded” appears and the highlight returns to the first option in the menu.
  10. Select 1-0) Return to main menu.
  11. Select 2) Update MicroP Firmware in the main menu. (This is the final step in the whole sequence of menu selections.)
  12. When microP firmware is updated, Z710 will automatically shut down after a 5 second countdown.
  13. Remove the microSD card.
  14. Power on Z710 to use the new version of Android.
