How to Image a DVR

Drive Creation

Estimated Task Completion Time: ~30-45 Minutes (Hardware Dependent)

Prerequisites:

  • Contact Getac Support (+1-833-820-5172 or [email protected]) to get the latest and correct image for your device, as well as your registration information. 
    • Please have the device serial number ready.
  • Signed document from IT Director, Chief, Deputy Chief, etc. Acknowledging risk to process.  
  • Qty 1 USB Drive at least 16GB in size
  • Qty 1 USB Keyboard
  1. Plug your thumb drive in to a Windows computer that has the provided files from pre-requisites.
  2. Open Command Prompt or PowerShell.
  3. Type "DiskPart" and hit enter.
  4. Type "list disk" and hit enter. This will give you a list of all connected physical disks.
  5. Type "select disk #" where # is the number of your USB Drive from step 4.
    Warning:
    Do not continue if unsure whether the correct drive has been selected. System corruption can occur and cannot be recovered.
  6. Type the following commands in order, and hit enter after each:
    clean
    
    create partition primary size=4096
    
    format fs=fat32 Label="OS" quick
    
    create partition primary
    
    list partition
    
    select partition 2
    
    format fs=NTFS Label="Image" quick
    
    list volume
    
    select volume (number of image volume)
    
    assign letter=(assign unused drive letter)
  7. Close or exit Command Prompt.

Image Setup

  1. Copy the contents of the provided "OS" folder to the "OS" partition of your USB drive.
  2. Copy the contents of the provided "Image" folder to the "Image" partition of your USB drive.

Image Install

Warning:
Before continuing, make sure there are no videos or other Assets waiting to be offloaded from the device else it will be permanently deleted and unrecoverable.
  1. Plug the USB drive you created in 5" display or DVR itself.
  2. Plug in your USB keyboard to the 5" display or DVR itself.
  3. Reboot the unit if it is on, or if it isn't power it up.
    1. While it is booting, press F10 continuously until you enter a setup menu.
  4. Select Boot Manager, select your USB drive, press enter. This should boot you to a Command Prompt window.
  5. Determine which drive the deploy script is on.
    1. Type "DiskPart" and hit enter
    2. Type "list disk" and hit enter. This will give you a list of all connected physical disks.
    3. Type "select disk #" where # is the number of your USB Drive from step 5b.
    4. Type "list volume" and hit enter. This will list all the volumes we created previously.  One of them should be called "Image" and will have a drive letter assigned to it. Note the drive letter.
  6. Exit DiskPart by typing "Exit" and hitting enter.
  7. Run the Deploy script using the command in step 7a. and hitting enter. Substitute X for the drive letter from step 5d.
    1.  X:\Deploy.cmd
  8. The image process should begin. Once it is done it will ask you to press any key to continue.  Do so.
  9. The unit will reboot and come up to your fresh image install.

Unit Registration

Caution:
If unable to locate the license key, passcode, or registration URL, please Contact Getac Video Support @ +1-833-820-5172 or [email protected].
  1. Enter 25-digit license key. Press "Save and Continue".
  2. Enter registration URL and passcode. Press "Connect".
  3. The radio buttons for new unit or existing unit registration should illuminate.  Select the desired registration method. Proceed to step 4 for "New Unit" or step 5 for "Existing Unit".
  4. IF NEW, choose a name for the unit and select the station you wish to register to. 
    1. Proceed to step 6.
  5. IF REGISTERING AN EXISTING UNIT, you will need the unique 16-digit "key" of the unit from the Enterprise website. 
    1. Browse to the unit's configuration page, then look for the key. See the image below for an example.
    2. Enter the unique key, press "Check". Verify this is the correct unit name that you are trying to register. 
    3. Proceed to step 6.

  6.  Click or tap on "Register".
