Overview
BlackBox Recordings, can only be accessed by logging into the Windows operating system as an administrator. How far back in time a recording is available, is dependent upon the size of secondary drive purchased. This article details the process of logging into the ClientAdmin profile and accessing the BlackBox drive.
Log into Windows and Access Blackbox drive
Items required:
- Keyboard & Mouse
Note:A commonly used keyboard/mouse combo is the Logitech™ K400 Plus however, any keyboard and mouse will work the same.
- ClientAdmin profile password
Perform the following steps:
- Connect the keyboard & mouse to the DVR via the USB port on the right side of the CU-D50.
Note:Plug in a USB hub first, then the USB Keyboard/Mouse if copying BlackBox Recordings to a USB drive.
- Press the CTRL + ALT + DELETE keys together on the keyboard.
- Click on Sign Out
- Click on the ClientAdmin profile to log back into the Windows desktop environment.
- After a few moments, the Getac InCar App will automatically launch and take up all available screen space.
Caution:The InCar app cannot be minimized. Ignore the application and move to step 6.
- Press the WIN + E keys together on the keyboard to open File Explorer.
Note:Performing this step will make the Windows desktop environment accessible again.
- Navigate to D:\Blackbox
Note:BlackBox Recordings save in .MP4 format in 15 minute increments.
- To locate a particular file, use the following file structure nomenclature:
{UnitID}_{CameraName}_{Unit_Serial}_{MMDDYYYY}{hhmmss}
(e.g. Unit1_Backseat_1_03282022151517)Note:The Date column (in File Explorer) will also show the date and time of recording.
Working with BlackBox files
Once accessed and downloaded from a DVR, the following are common use cases for BlackBox Recordings.
- Upload into Getac Enterprise.
Note:This is useful if a recording was recovered of an event that the User was not able to activate a recording.
- Upload to third-party Records Management System.
Caution:Getac does not provide documentation for this process, as there are many RMS systems. Contact your RMS vendor for assistance.
- Use for internal training.
Getac does not use proprietary players or codecs, so BlackBox videos can be reviewed in whichever application that .MP4 files are supported, e.g. VLC Media Player.
